Capricorn's Symbol

Capricorns symbol is the head of a goat and the body of a fish. This is symbolic of them being a "Goat-fish" or "Sea-goat." Some accounts in astrology suggest that Capricorn is the evolved iteration of Aries. This is why in one of the two Capricorn symbols, one can see Aries horns attached to what looks like a Taurus symbol as a 90 degree angle.  Seagoat Symbol
Capricorn's Ruling Planet

Capricorn's Ruling Planet

Capricorn is ruled by the planet Saturn which is the sixth planet from the sun. Saturn is the least dense of the  gas giant planets and it has more than 34 moons. It is the farthest planet that can be seen with the naked eye. In astrology, Saturn is the planet of contraction, authority, limitations, wisdom, control, fear, denial, self-condemnation, time, hardship and order. Saturn traditionally "co-ruled" Aquarius before modern astrology reassigned Aquarius to Uranus. Saturn is associated with Saturday and Christmas. The Festival of Saturnalias took place a few days after the winter began. The symbol for Saturn represents Sickle Capricorn is matter over mind which is oppositie to Cancer's mind over matter.

Capricorn Myth
Some accounts link Capricorn to Ea or Enki, the primordial god of water and creation that manifested into consciousness to bring wisdom and civilization to humanity. The modern association with Capricorn is related to Zeus’ foster mother Amalthea. Since Zeus’ father Cronus swallowed his siblings before he was born, Cronus’ wife Rhea sent Zeus to live in a sea town and gave Cronus a rock wrapped in a blanket. Amalthea was a satyr, so Zeus’s nanny was half goat. This gave Zeus the opportunity to grow up, overthrow the Titans and free his brothers and sisters from Cronus’ stomach. More...
